Brandi Taylor
Elementary Education
Graduation Date: December 2021
Brandi Taylor teaches a fourth grade classroom at Riverside Elementary. After hearing our December presenter, Mrs. Lindsay Bays, Brandi decided to implement a breathing exercise and mindfulness meditation into her class of 19. Brandi found success with Peace Out, a 6 minute guided relaxation video for kids, found on YouTube. After listening to the video and following the steps, Brandi observed the class do 3 minutes of deep meditation. For a total time of 9 minutes, Brandi said she would be doing this more often as it had a positive impact on her students’ behaviors going into the next lesson. In her reflection she mentioned trying this after recess or lunch to get the class back into a learning mindset.
Lux Claridge
Secondary Education - Physics & Chemistry
Graduation Date: May 2022
Lux is a student teacher at Emporia High School. They are a secondary science education major at Emporia State University. For their application of learning, they used models from a Kappa Delta Pi Toolbox seminar. These models are PIC-RAT and SAMR. For Lux’s lesson they used the PIC-RAT lesson to enhance the lesson with technology. They speak of great success using university-level research software with two 11th grade chemistry courses. They are excited to teach this in their own class where they can know the students a little bit better.
